Arne Jacobsen Series 7
Designed by Arnie Jacobsen in 1955, the hourglass-shaped chair has become one of the furniture brand’s best-selling products.

The seat of the chair is 50 cm wide by 52 cm deep and 80.5 cm high. Its design allows up to 12 units to be stacked on top of each other.
The Italian velvet upholstery option was introduced earlier this year and is available in three colors: Misty Rose, Autumn Red and Gray Blue.
Sold exclusively by Fritz Hansen, the chairs are made using a technique called steam beading, which uses the heat from steam to form new layers of wood.
Customers can choose from plain, stained or lacquered wood, leather or new plush upholstery.
Series 7 Re Launch
The velvet is made of 100 percent cotton and covers both the seat and the bottom of the chair. It is a durable spray fabric that is crush and tear resistant.
Created by Italian textile brand Redaelli Velluti, the family-owned company has been working with velvet for over 100 years in the fashion, furniture and interior design industries.
Opting for velvet in deep colors such as autumnal red and gray blue and the lighter misty rose, the brand aims to refresh the timeless design with upholstery never before seen on 7 Series chairs.
“Popular colors give this classic design an update,” said Christian Andersen, head of design at Fritz Hansen. “Making it in velvet adds to its relevance.”
Mid Century Modern Arne Jacobsen Series 7 Chair For Fritz Hansen
The Velvet Series 7 chair has bronze powder-coated steel legs, instead of chrome steel legs on other variants. The color is designed to complement the furniture.
The furniture brand is inspired by the fact that the material has always been considered a luxury fabric, but works in a variety of contemporary environments when applied to a classic design.
According to the brand, the new version of the 7 Series offers “a fine balance between formality and simplicity, form and function, past and future”.
Fritz Hansen was founded in 1872 and has been a leader in furniture design ever since. With classic designs like the 7 Series, the brand promotes a modern aesthetic driven by Scandinavian lifestyle and Scandinavian design.

Many replicas of the chair have been created over the years, but they rarely achieve the same delicate structure and level of detail as Arnie Jacobson’s original.
Designers took full advantage of the possibilities surrounding the brilliant lamination technology developed by Soren C. Hansen, grandson of founder Fritz Hansen, in the 1920s and 1930s. He also achieved industrial success by shaping three different curves into a single piece of molded plywood, resulting in the chair’s iconic shape.
The chair is in veneer, with or without fabric or leather upholstery. There are many different types and colors of wood available. The many possibilities of adjustment are certainly one of the keys to the worldwide success of the chair.
Other versions are available: Serie 7 Bar, in two seat heights (64 or 76 cm) and Serie 7 Office with adjustable seat height (42 to 55 cm) and wheels
