Blue Haven Nursing Home – Blue Haven’s Open Day in Bonara attracted 2,000 visitors, four to five times more than expected, as locals took the opportunity to inspect the state-of-the-art complex.

The first impression of locals is spacious, welcoming, comfortable, light-filled, airy. These were my initial impressions when I entered Lily Pally and Cedar Residential Aged Care Homes in New Blue Haven Bonara Village.
Wide wooden corridors lead to several modern, spacious communal dining and relaxation areas, where plush sofas and armchairs covered in vibrant fabrics enliven the spirit and large flat-screen TVs and gas heaters ensure coziness.

On either side of the wide corridor are the bedrooms, all painted in calm, muted tones and featuring attractive furnishings and individually controlled air conditioning, as well as modern bathrooms. They were also properly equipped with safety rails and handrails around toilets and showers, as well as shower chairs for wheelchair users.
All common areas and most of the bedrooms have pleasant views over the garden, which will be enhanced with fresh planting. It is surprising to see that the existing giant eucalyptus trees have been preserved.
Other areas that particularly impressed me were the wellness center, the hair salon, the artwork (I know many local artists), the observation deck with amazing views of the beach, the children’s playground and the beautifully restored The historic Barroll House, which it will be. Serves as a coffee shop for residents, tourists and general public.
The Open Day was very well attended and felt like a pleasant social outing – think most Kiama will be there – which bodes well for future residents! I’m sure many of our elders were thinking “Wow, when can I move!”
