The RT-AC88U comes with a 4×4 antenna design and is MU-MIMO enabled. If you want to know what MU-MIMO is, check out my review of the Linksys EA8500 AC2600 MU-MIMO router.

Having said that, the design of the router is just as important. Asus routers are not known for their design, but they are functional.
The first thing that caught your attention about this router is that it has eight LAN ports, but most routers on the market only have four. The last time I used a router with more than four LAN ports was a Western Digital My Net N900 three years ago.
There are two USB ports on this router, one on the back is a USB 2.0 port and one on the front left side of the router is a USB 3.0 port. I personally have never used the USB port feature on my routers.

WTFast is not a free service, it costs US$59.90 per year (S$85 per year) for the basic plan and US$99.90 per year (S$140 per year) for the advanced plan.
However, the Asus RT-AC88U is the first router with this built-in feature and comes bundled free for life.
I’ve used Linksys and D-Link routers in the past and found the overall user interface of Asus Admin to be the best. It may not look good, but it works and it’s fast.
Linksys Admin UI is good but slow, D-Link Admin UI is fast but menu items are hard to find.

On the other hand, the Asus looks bad, but I like the side menu items and the main theme tabs are clear and easy to find.
RT-AC88U supports dual-WAN. This means that if you have two separate internet connections at home, this router can support both. There are two scenarios for Dual-WAN, Failover or Load Balancing.
This means that if one of your internet connections fails, switch to another.
The loaded version means it uses two internet connections at the same time and gives you the fastest speed from one of your internet connections.

The second Internet connection is via a 3G/4G USB key from one of the first four LAN ports.
You may need a VLAN tag if you are not on Singtel’s unlimited fiber plan or using StarHub. I had trouble finding where the VLAN tag menu item was and had to go to Google to find out.
I don’t know why Asus categorizes it under IPTV because you still need a VLAN tag whether you use IPTV or not.
Most of the routers I’ve reviewed so far support the router as a VPN server, but they don’t support the router as a VPN client itself.

This is where Asus routers differ. The router works well as a VPN client because anyone connected to the router can proxy through the VPN so you can only watch/purchase US-only content.
For routers without VPN client support, you have to use SmartDNS which doesn’t work for me on Singtel these days.
I personally prefer using a VPN because it works 100% of the time instead of SmartDNS which sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t depending on traffic and your ISP.
This is a common problem in countries where the Internet is censored at the ISP level, if the ISP uses special routing methods such as different sets of IP addresses or IPs for each HTTP request. Most Singaporean ISPs such as Singtel and Starhub are known to exploit features that break third-party SmartDNS support.

I use the WiFi Explorer app on my MacBook Pro to test the wireless strength in two corners of my house, my room and the shared bathroom.
As you can see from the table below, the RT-AC88U’s wireless signal strength is impressive. Overall, this is probably the best router I’ve ever reviewed for wireless coverage.
I’ve started using iPerf to test router speed instead of my old Speedy Net app on Mac because it’s more accurate and informative.
Being more accurate, in the three tests I ran, LAN to LAN, LAN to wireless, and wireless to wireless, the RT-AC88U beat the previous three routers I reviewed
Asus Rt Ax88u Wifi Router In Singapore
The ASUS RT-AC88U is probably the most expensive router I’ve seen, and it’s not even Asus’ top router. The RT-AC88U retails at S$429, which is S$30 more than higher-end routers from Linksys and D-Link at S$399.
Since the RT-AC88U has more features than high-end routers from Linksys and D-Link, I think the extra S$30 is worth it.
I still stream Netflix to my Chromecast. VPN client support is important to me as my SmartDNS is not working since switching to Singtel.
Dual WAN is a great option for businesses that need two Internet connections in an emergency.

You really can’t go wrong with the RT-AC88U because of how many features it has and I’m sure your use cases will be covered.
As a reminder, the RT-AC88U supports MU-MIMO which I say is the next thing in wireless technology next year! This makes the RT-AC88U future-proof.

Asus Rt Ac88u Review 2020
The RT-AC88U is Asus’ latest dual-core router, not to mention the best router the company has released to date.
The Asus RT-AC88U router has eight fast gigabit LAN ports, fast Wi-Fi performance and many useful features. Its web interface is intuitively designed and easy to use.
The router’s USB 3.0 port is vulnerable, and when connected to an external drive, its NAS performance is only average.
The Asus RT-AC88U costs a lot, but it has everything you need in a router. If you have the money, this is the router you need to get.
Asus Ac3100 Wifi Gaming Router (rt Ac88u)
This is the first home router with eight gigabit LAN ports and additional support for Dual-WAN (one of the LAN ports can be switched to a WAN port) and port aggregation (two LAN ports can be combined into one high-speed connection). )
(Note: Asus also makes the RT-AC3100, which is identical to the RT-AC88U, including its appearance, but only has four LAN ports.)
On top of that, it has a robust, fun-to-use web interface, tons of great network monitoring features, a built-in VPN server, and the ability to protect your home network from intruders and snoopers. What’s more,
