To the horror of NVIDIA and many of their partners, we got a chance to check out the new GTX 660 Ti GPU in stock and overclocked form ahead of its official launch today. Today we saw our first retail sample based on the new GPU in the form of MSI’s GTX 660 Ti 2GB Power Edition.

When we get to the bottom half of the box you can see that we see this card, MSI is focusing on the real features of the Twin Frozr IV cooler with dual 80mm fans, multiple heat pipes, high density heatsink what can be done. As we mentioned earlier when looking at the packaging, you can see that we are dealing with two 80mm fans, and on the back you can see a large heatsink that takes up most of the graphics card. Finally, we can see a number of heat pipes on the bottom that help round out the cooling solution.

If we look around, we can’t see anything unusual in terms of the overall design. At the back, you can see that power is supplied via two 6-pin PCIe power connectors, while closer to the front, you can see two SLI connectors capable of driving three of them simultaneously.

Finally, we end with the I/O end, and looking up, you can see that we have two dual-link DVI connectors stacked on top of each other, while the DisplayPort and HDMI connectors are on the bottom left of the card. Having a Power Edition based video card means we are dealing with overclocking out of the box. If you’re using the reference GTX 660 Ti, you’ll see a core clock of 915MHz, which has been boosted to 980MHz. For 2GB GDDR5, it will be 6008MHz QDR.

Above you can see the clock speeds we’re dealing with today on the Power Edition version of the GTX 660 Ti. Starting with the core clock, you can see that MSI has boosted it to 1020MHz, which means the boost clock frequency has also been pushed to 1098MHz. The memory is the same speed as the reference model with 6008MHz QDR.

From above, you can see that nothing has changed on our testbed, which actually includes everything in the image. When we benchmark video cards and look at the graphs, our goal is to hit a specific FPS level that we think is playable. While many may argue that the human eye can’t see more than 24 fps or 30 fps, any true gamer will tell you that as we get higher and higher frames per second (fps) the overall gaming experience is smoother .
