King Koil Chiro Flex 5 Medium – What are the best mattress brands in Australia? Check out some popular brands to see which brands are the best…and the worst!

Whether it’s a car, a washing machine, or a mattress, the brand of a product often influences our decision. If we associate a particular brand with quality or value, we are more likely to choose that product. Similarly, if we associate a brand with low or unfamiliarity, we are less likely to buy it.

Are we just victims of good marketing and advertising when it comes to product brands? Which mattress brands are the best? We’ve cut through all the noise, and ranked Australia’s most popular mattress brands and manufacturers.

Comfort Sleep Bedding is a family owned company that has been manufacturing mattresses for over 30 years. You can find Comfort Sleep mattresses at bedding retailers such as Beds N Dreams and Focus On Furniture. They also supply mattresses to leading Australian hotels such as the Crown and the famous Star Hotel in Sydney.

After witnessing the craftsmanship during a tour of the Melbourne factory, it was clear that Comfort Sleep products are first class. A perfect example of this is the Neoluxe Vantage Silver, which was awarded Mattress of the Year in 2019.

Chiropedic is a family owned, Australian made company and one of Australia’s best mattress brands. They have been producing Australian made mattresses for almost 30 years and their products are of the highest quality, and offer great value.

Their award-winning Yinahla range includes outstanding products such as Yinahla Classic Comfort, and Yinahla Visco Flex. These mattresses easily compare to luxury mattresses at double and triple the price. Having tested the entire Chiropedic range, we are very comfortable in rating them as one of Australia’s leading mattress brands.

Best (and Worst) Mattress Brands In Australia

Sleepyzzy is a family bedding company established in Melbourne in 1956. Sleepyzi mattresses can be found in many major bedding retailers such as Fortiwinks and Amart Furniture, making them accessible to most Australians.

Sleepyzi produces the elegantly comfortable Silent Partner range by Fortywinks as well as the state-of-the-art Orthokinetic range by Immort Furniture. Perhaps one of their standouts is the Orthokinetic Signature Monarch Ultra Plush, which we named one of the best luxury mattresses of 2020.

The Original Mattress Factory (OMF) is a well-established Australian bedding retailer and brand. They have a good range of mattresses which are generally good quality and good value.

With around 50 stores in Australia, The Original Mattress Factory has two of the best mattresses on the market, St Tropez and St Barth. Both are beautifully made, comfortable and surprisingly affordable.

Sealy is one of Australia’s most popular mattress brands. You can find Sally’s mattresses in many retail bedding stores such as Harvey Norman, Forty Winx, Snooze and Freedom. The problem is that their mattresses are not very convincing. Sealy seems to stick with spring systems that feel weak and unstable, causing significant partner concern.

Plus, their comfort layers aren’t as comfortable as other brands we’ve tried. A good example of this is the Sealy Posturepedic Elevate Tribute to Snooze. This mattress feels unstable, and retails for $3299 – more than cheap. After testing several Sealy mattresses, we found several other brands to be better in terms of comfort, support and value.

For example the Silent Night London mattress range is a more comfortable alternative than most of the Sealy mattresses we’ve tested.

Sleepmaker is one of Australia’s most established, well-known mattress brands. Sleepmaker products are manufactured by Comfort Group, a major player in bedding and foam production. Sleepmaker mattresses are available at many retailers such as Harvey Norman, David Jones, Myer, and Sleepies to name a few.

Wood Furniture Singapore

Despite their strong brand presence, we found SleepMaker mattresses to be pretty average, and clearly overpriced. We’ve tried several that have a ‘cheap and seasonal’ feel, for example BedsRU’s Sleepmaker Hillier 4. It retails for $1799, and it feels basic and unimpressive.

Temporary mattresses are made from ‘memory foam’, also known as ‘visco-elastic’ foam. This means that Tempur mattresses do not have springs like traditional mattresses. This gives Tempor mattresses a unique, dense and ‘fluffy’ feel, which closely molds to your body.

Temporal mattresses can be found at major bedding retailers such as Forty Winx, Snooze, and Harvey Norman. Temporary mattresses are quite expensive, and in our opinion, overpriced.

If you like the feel of Tempur mattresses, we’ll try the Ergoflex Mattress first, which feels the same as many Tempur mattresses and comes with the benefit of a 30-night free trial period.

A.H.Beard is an Australian made and owned bedding company that has been manufacturing mattresses for over 100 years. They have several facilities in Australia and one in New Zealand. AHBeard produce a range of products, not known as their ‘King Quill’ range, which are available in major retailers such as Forty Winks, Harvey Norman, and Domayne.

They are reasonably priced but we got some negative feedback about durability. That being said, Harvey Norman’s King Coil Chiro Superb range may be one of our favorite A.H.Beard products.

IKEA is synonymous with affordable, ‘ready to assemble’ furniture. Their amazing showrooms have everything you need for your home, including a range of relatively affordable mattresses. They may look attractive in an IKEA showroom environment but we wouldn’t hesitate to say that their mattresses are just plain cheap and dirty.

Some of their ‘popular’ models, Hovag and Hammarok, typify their range. Both feel cheap, weak and uncomfortable. Despite their nice looking stores, we recommend staying away from IKEA mattresses.

Many of the other box mattress products we’ve tested outperform all IKEA mattresses. Here are the top 10 mattresses in a box in Australia in 2020.
