Mt Druitt Tafe Courses – The NSW Police and TAFE are increasing the number of Australians in the Force through a unique training program that prepares students for the tough world of Policing.
Currently, only about two per cent of those working for the NSW Police Force are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; however an additional four percent has been set to help close the gap.

The IPROWD training program, run at TAFE NSW – Western Sydney Institute (WSI), provides participants with the skills necessary to meet the entry requirements for the Postgraduate Diploma in Police Training at the University of Charles Sturt became a Policeman. The IPROWD (Indigenous Police Recruitment Our Way Delivery) project is a partnership between TAFE NSW, the NSW Police Force and the Australian Government.

The 18-week program began in Sydney’s west on February 28 and will include training designed to prepare students to enter the NSW Police College in Goulburn. Students who complete the course will receive a Certificate III in Vocational Skills and Learning Pathways. The nationwide program will help 180 participants develop literacy and learning skills with World Cup athlete and TAFE coach David Winfield’s physical training, FirstAid training, health assessments and visits to the NSW Police College. The NSW Police are working closely with TAFE teachers to provide specific training for each IPROWD group as well as providing advice and assistance in preparing Police College applications.
