Premier Inn County Hall
County Hall (sometimes called London County Hall) is a building in the London Borough of Lambeth that is the seat of London County Council (LCC) and later Greater London Council (GLC). The building is on the south bank of the River Thames, with Westminster Bridge to the south. It faces west towards the City of Westminster and is close to the Palace of Westminster. London Underground stations are Waterloo and Westminster. It is a Grade II* listed building.

The building was commissioned in the mid-19th century to replace the Spring Gardens headquarters inherited from the Metropolitan Works Council.
The site chosen by civic leaders was previously made up of four properties: Float Mead (occupied by the Simmonds flour mills), Pedlar’s Acre (occupied by docks and houses), Bishop’s Acre (occupied by the Cross & Blackwell factory), and Four Acres (occupied by workshops and barns). .

Royal Festival Hall Wedding
For 64 years, County Hall served as the seat of London’s local government. In the 1980s, the powerful Labor-led GLC led by K Livingstone came into conflict with Margaret Thatcher’s National Conservative government. The facade of the borough hall often serves as a billboard for opposition slogans visible from the Palace of Westminster.
When Margaret Thatcher’s government abolished the GLC in 1986, City Hall lost its role as the seat of government in London. Discussions about what will happen to the building soon followed, and there were plans to move the London School of Economics to a site that did not come to fruition.
The building was used by the Inner London Education Agency (ILEA) until it was abolished in 1990, when the building was transferred to the London Waste Authority and eventually sold to Japanese investor Shirayama Shokusan.
On October 21, 2005, we and the High Court of Wales upheld a motion by the building’s owners, Shirayama Shokusan, to evict the Saatchi Gallery for breach of contract, particularly for the use of outside space for exhibitions.
