Having a BBQ picnic is one of our favorite things to do on our travels as a family, or as a local, for a simple dining experience. And when you have small children like us, it’s a much more relaxed experience, then there’s a cramped cafe or restaurant and worrying about spilled drinks and keeping the kids quiet.
The city of Gold Coast boasts over 380 barbecues scattered along beaches, parks and reserves and the council does a great job of maintaining and cleaning these free gas BBQs for everyone let’s enjoy them.
Next time you’re on the Gold Coast, make the most of these facilities and open spaces and enjoy the beautiful scenery on offer.
My favorite place for BBQ is Goldie’s. Biased, I know, as it’s my new place but as far as ocean views and cool weather go, Burleigh Point is hard to beat! We had a barbie on the grass in the sun last Sunday with our kids and many other locals.

There are gas BBQs (we brought our Weber this time) and picnic tables scattered around the head, but why not bring a blanket and have a spot on the grass! We love watching surfers, there’s a playground to keep the kids happy, and it’s one of the best sunsets in Goldie!
I love Rainbow Bay. In fact, one of our favorite family activities is walking the beach from Coolangatta to Snapper Rocks with the Rainbow Bay Surf Club.
Rainbow Bay is a southern Queensland beach with Greenmount Hill as a backdrop, and is a popular spot for families to BBQ and picnic on the beach. And if you stay long enough in the afternoon, you’ll get a great view of the sun setting behind the heavenly paradise.
Scenic Tallebudger Creek is a relaxing place to gather with your friends or family for a BBQ breakfast or lunch. The river is a great place for children to swim and is framed by Burleigh Heads National Park on one side and Palm Beach on the other.

There are BBQs and picnic tables, a children’s playground and a sandy beach for relaxing, or you can bring your kayak and stand on the boards and paddle in the calm waters. .
I just discovered the existence of Laguna Park in the Palm Beach / Currumbin area, and by all accounts we need to include it in this BBQ list, and in our previously announced games post. Cool, another option in our local area.
The park overlooks the lake and has several covered barbecue and picnic areas, a new leisure area, and apparently one of the best children’s playgrounds on the Gold Coast.

You are in the heart of everything here and every Sunday there is often drumming or other entertainment, or later in the day you can pop into the nearby surf club for of a delicious sunset beer.
While we’re on the subject of Burleigh, there are BBQ and picnic table facilities along the Esplanade to North Burleigh and every day you’ll see locals or holiday makers making the most of it. . Enter Burleigh.
A short drive north of the heart of Broadbeach and on the other side of the Gold Coast Highway you will find Cascade Gardens (turn left on St Kilda Avenue).

It’s like a quiet haven away from the hustle and bustle of Broadbeach with BBQs lining the canal and plenty of shade trees, picnic tables and a modern toilet. There is a large open grass area for children to run around as well as a well-equipped playground.
If you want to be in the heart of Broadbeach, look no further than Kurwa Pratton Park on the beach south of Kurwa Surf Club.
Pratton Park is popular with locals and holidaymakers alike with great BBQ and picnic areas, large open grass areas and one of the best playgrounds on the beach of the sea. You have a beach right there for the kids, with active playground equipment!
Make a list when the weather warms up again. A short 15-minute drive from Currumbin Beach, the rock pools are obviously a popular spot and sound like the perfect place for a family picnic and BBQ by the river with how.

We haven’t grilled here ourselves, but Paradise Point Parklands comes highly recommended from other locals and from what we’ve read online.
At the northern end of the Gold Coast, the harmony seems to have everything for a top family BBQ place; New community BBQ, picnic area, large playground, open grass area, shade trees, swimming lake, view of Sovereign Island and various shops and restaurants if you need anything.
A short trip north of Surfers Paradise brings you to Southport and another park that I mentioned in our 5 best places to play on the Gold Coast post. It also doubles as a great BBQ area.

Here you have three miles of open parkland along the Broadwater foreshore perfect for family gatherings. Relax at the BBQ and picnic tables with a beautiful view of the water while your kids will have hours of fun at the playground, swimming at the beach or wading in the pools. a rock.
