You’ll feel like there’s a breathtaking view no matter which way you look in the halls and rooms of Pullman Hyde Park in Sydney. Located in the southeast corner of Hyde Park, overlooking the CBD and Bondi on the other. If you like a setting, then I suspect this is a hotel that has popped up on your radar.
Pullman Hyde Park has had many names over the years, with the construction of something iconic to the locals. My wife was there for a hen night almost 20 years ago. But this last stop is a more romantic occasion. Just the two of us; the kids go… I don’t care where the kids are, they’re not near me!
How does the older girl hold up? Is Pullman Sydney Hyde Park one of the best places to stay in Downtown?
Pullman Sydney Hyde Park is priced relatively or even slightly below its peers in the surrounding area. I didn’t notice any major differences when doing a search between the rate between the week and the weekend or school holiday. If you see price fluctuations, I’d say it’s because you’re booking for a wedding or an off-site company with increased demand.
Pullman Sydney Hyde Park, Sydney
The Classic Room costs around $260 to $280. This price increases in $20 increments when you move up to the Superior Room, Deluxe Room, and Executive Room. For families, there are suites that seem to cost around $420.
Looking at the hotel landscape, I’d say Pullman Sydney Hyde Park is pretty reasonably priced compared to other options out there.
Pullman Sydney Hyde Park has an extremely attractive location. It is not in the heart of the CBD, but it is in the heart of the Sydney metropolitan area. About a 20-minute walk west, you’ll find Darling Harbour. A 20-minute walk north is where you’ll find Circular Quay, with its Opera House and Harbor Bridge. If you walk 20 minutes south, you will reach Central Station. A 10-minute walk east is the iconic King’s Cross.
No need to walk because public transport is nearby. You can easily catch a bus or train to any of these locations. It is also close to bus routes to Bondi and Fox Studios. There are many restaurants, pubs and clubs on Oxford Street just around the corner.

Then of course there’s Hyde Park, a true wonder of Sydney. It is surrounded by beautiful old buildings, including museums and art galleries. It also connects to the Domain that opens up to the Botanical Gardens, a beautiful location for a walk that leads down to the harbour.
As mentioned, its location – right from the downtown area – gives you a great view of the city. You can’t see many of the main attractions, but still beautiful. In most directions, visibility is more or less unobstructed.
Overall, I would support the location, as long as you understand that it’s not in the heart of Circular Quay or Darling Harbour. If your dream is to be in one of those places, it’s probably too far away for your needs.
Nothing happens in the lobby of Pullman Sydney Hyde Park. It’s not a big space, but it’s nice enough. There is a mini bar, cafe/restaurant and reception. Don’t expect a large open area and opulence, but it’s not obtrusive. There are some nice large chandeliers all around and the stairs have an old school pattern on them.

The first two floors above are dedicated to working space and an auditorium. During the week, the hotel is obviously open for business, but it’s out of the question and you probably wouldn’t know anything was going on if you hadn’t happened to meet the attendees in person.
Overall, the hotel uses bolder and richer colors that are bold and appealing. It’s not an ultra-modern approach, a smart move since it’s an old building after all. However, there is one room that is a bit special. It was put together by interior design experts Coco Republic. It looked modern and chic and was the room I stayed in.
If you look closely in your room, you can see the age of the building that has made its name. Peeling paint, scuff marks on the floor, and curious little stains like this cannot be completely covered by new furniture and clothing. It doesn’t bother, but it’s noticeable.
Since it’s located just outside the city centre, it’s easy to get to Pullman Sydney Hyde Park. Although the road can still be crowded, it is still wide and not as cramped as the city streets in the downtown area. There is a wide walkway that allows you to pull over to the curb to unload/pack your belongings. There is parking available below, which I used. Even when driving a larger SUV, I found entry and exit points relatively easy. In regards to this, the spots in the city are always packed to begin with.

From the front door to the reception a short walk. The staff who greeted us were cheerful and quick about their work. We got up to our room right away and the key card worked the first time we asked for it. Checking in is also quick and painless; real wind.
I will preface this part of the review by pointing out that I stayed at Pullman Sydney Hyde Park during COVID and just a few days before Christmas. As a result, some of my experience was not helped by the difficulties Sydney businesses were trying to maintain at the time. Some big features – like being able to choose from a variety of pillows and having a kitchenette with cutlery – have been paused.
The 4 things that matter to me are a quiet room, consistent air conditioning, a breathtaking view, and a comfortable bed. The room ticks all 4 boxes with aplomb. While not every room has a stunning city view like the Park Suite from Coco Republic, many have and are really nice just sitting there looking out over the peaceful scenery.
I invite you to watch the video above for a tour around the room, but you’ll notice as I did that it’s very spacious, has a large bathroom with a great tub, and is well-stocked without being overwhelming. Loaded with furniture.

My two complaints are that the Wi-Fi is not free in the rooms. In this day and age, this is really unacceptable in my opinion. However, in this day and age, you can also compensate with 4G. For some reason when I got to my room, the set-top box was also missing. This was compounded by the fact that the TV was old and I couldn’t get the app to cast or play on the TV even though I paid for the Internet.
While this is my experience, I don’t think it will be a consistent complaint among guests. The manager came and chatted happily with me and I was also surprised that the set-top box was missing. The aforementioned COVID-related staff shortage means that the usual IT staff are not around to fix it. She also mentioned that they were in them
