AISM parents learned a lot about what it takes to be a visible learner and an ‘inspiring teacher’, but they also learned the power of being involved in their child’s learning journey. As we return to campus in the coming weeks and months, I hope we all learned some new habits to learn to keep.
To help your child, start by listening and acknowledging his feelings as he makes this transition. Our instincts may be to try to ‘fix’ problems or say they are not true, but I encourage you to ‘take space’. Encourage curiosity and open discussion about the ups and downs of social reality: they may have forgotten. Promote pride and individuality, soon they will not be able to fully adjust their social life, as they do on the Internet, so they will need something to strengthen their strength. Help them all find happiness and simple pleasures, celebrate all the good things in this extended time at home, reflect on the wisdom given to us by the truth, but talk with joy and hope about what is to come.
